The Uluru Statement from the Heart

Four years ago, First Nations communities delivered the Uluru Statement from the Heart. The statement asks for a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Constitution and a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement making and truth telling. You can read the Statement in full here.

You can show your support for the Statement by signing up as a supporter. One of the most effective ways to support the Statement is to share it with your friends and family - you can find a supporter kit to help you share it here.

National Sorry Day

On National Sorry Day (May 26) we remember the grief, suffering and injustice experienced by the Stolen Generations - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities.

More information about National Sorry Day, the Stolen Generations and the Bringing the Home Report can be found on the Reconciliation Australia website.

You can find out more about the important work of the Healing Foundation - a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation that partners with communities to address the ongoing trauma caused by actions like the forced removal of children from their families - on their website.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to reflect on what they can do to help achieve reconciliation in Australia.

It begins on May 27 - the anniversary of the 1967 referendum - and ends on June 3 - the anniversary of the High Court's decision in the Mabo case.

You can find a list of actions you can take all year round on the Reconciliation Australia website.

Locally, Riverside Parramatta is hosting Yuin Byalla (Truth Talking) at 6:00pm on 3 June. Writer Bruce Pascoe, astronomer Karlie Noon and representatives of Australia’s first Indigenous youth-led climate network SEED will be discussing the themes of this year's Reconciliation Week (More the a word. Reconciliation takes action.) and NAIDOC Week (Heal Country!). You can find tickets here.
